Japanese House VR

I was planning to visit Japan in 2020 but then Covid-19 pandemic happened. Instead, I pulled a reference book on Japanese traditional houses from my shelf, and try to recreate one house from scratch for Virtual Reality experience. I don’t really have a goal for this project, aside from trying to recreate mundane interaction in VR, such as opening door, and sit and relax in virtual world to escape from daily life’s stress.
This project is still being worked on. I’m planning to add a little bit more window and door details, work on the roof, and eventually add furniture and props. Instead of going with PBR materials, I want to do hand-paint texture similar to detailed anime backgrounds that we can find in Studio Ghibli and Makoto Shinkai’s movies.
